Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Austin Street North

Winnipeg, MBAt 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in two-and-a-half-storey multi-family residence in the 200 block of Austin Street North.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the structure. They launched an interior fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. It was declared under control at 5:22 p.m.

Residents were able to safely self-evacuate before WFPS crews arrived. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team was deployed to assist displaced residents find temporary accommodations.

The structure sustained fire, water, and smoke damage. No damage estimates are available at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
