Robbery – Arrests: C19-256622

Released: November 1, 2019 at 8 a.m.

On October 31, 2019, at approximately 4:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Pacific Avenue and Ellen Street for a report of a taxicab driver that had been robbed at gunpoint. A shot had also been fired at the cab; however, no injuries were reported.

With the assistance of the K9 Unit, responding officers located a number of suspects inside a residence in the 300 block of Pacific Avenue. Some individuals were taken into custody early, but remaining occupants of the house engaged in a lengthy standoff with police.

Members of the Tactical Support Team and the Crisis Negotiation Unit, along with other police units, were used to bring the incident to a safe resolution. A total of 11 people were taken into custody throughout the event.

The Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and executed a search warrant at the residence, recovering a .380 Auto handgun along with ammunition and a pellet gun. The pistol was determined to have been stolen during a break & enter in Selkirk, Manitoba, in 1998.

Samuel Tache McKay, a 31-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
- Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Pointing a Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice

Prairie Sky Atkinson, a 24-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Identity Fraud - Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice

She was also processed on several outstanding warrants.

They were detained in custody.

A 24-year-old female of Winnipeg has been arrested for:

- Armed Robbery using a Firearm

An 18-year-old female of Winnipeg has been arrested for:

- Armed Robbery using a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)

They were released on a Promise to Appear.
