Cornish Library to temporarily close for renovations

Released: May 4, 2018 at 2:45 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Cornish Library, located at 20 West Gate, will be closed as of Saturday, May 12 at 5 p.m. for renovations. Construction will take approximately one year, with an expected reopening in the summer of 2019.

Built in 1915, Cornish Library has served the community for over a century. Renovations will ensure the building meets the needs of today’s customers and future generations.

Renovation plans for the main floor include a redesign of adult, children, and teen areas, a computer area, study and leisure spaces, and a new accessible washroom. An extension to the south of the building will include a bright and open reading area, while the lower level will be completely renewed with program and meeting rooms, and renovated washrooms. Furnishings will be updated and general building upgrades will also be completed.

During the closure, holds for Cornish Library customers will be sent to West End Library, 999 Sargent Ave (Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex), unless customers have directed their holds to be sent to a different branch.

The Cornish Library book return will be closed during renovations. Items can be returned to any other branch of Winnipeg Public Library.

Winnipeg Public Library’s online services of downloadable eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, and streaming movies and music are available 24/7. Library customers can use the online My Account service at any time to review their request and holds, and to renew borrowed items.
