Winnipeggers asked to review and provide comment on draft master plan for off-leash dog areas

Released: May 3, 2018 at 2 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is seeking feedback on the draft Off-Leash Dog Areas Master Plan (OLAMP), developed to address and respond to growing interest and demand for off-leash dog areas in Winnipeg.

In recent years, use of off-leash dog areas has significantly increased, and as a result, many of the City’s off-leash facilities experience overuse. The OLAMP will address the needs of all park users and will develop a vision and implementation strategy for off-leash dog areas throughout Winnipeg.

The draft plan was developed through research and consideration of a large amount of public feedback received in late 2017. The project team had 540 in-person interactions at engagement sessions, received 2,120 online surveys and 250 submissions to an online mapping tool. Participants now have an opportunity to see how their feedback was considered within a public engagement report.

Starting today, Winnipeggers are encouraged to go online to review a draft of the Off-Leash Dog Areas Master Plan and provide comment through an online survey at winnipeg.ca/offleashareas. The survey will be available until May 20, 2018.

Following consideration of survey feedback, the OLAMP will be finalized and submitted for Council consideration.
