Annual bike auction to be held April 28 and 29 at Terry Sawchuk Arena

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched a new, faster, and more convenient method to register your bicycle with the introduction of an online component to its existing bike registry service.

Registering your bike with the City ensures that if it gets lost or stolen and then located, we can notify you immediately, and arrangements can be made to have your bike returned. There is a one-time fee of $6.60 (includes GST) to register your bike. Registration payments can be made by credit card or by cheque. Several bikes can be registered to one household, and users can upload up to three photos for each bike registered. If recovered by the City, registered bikes will be returned to their owners with no additional charge.

“The new online bike registry is a terrific resource for all Winnipeg cyclists,” said Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, Chair, Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “The registry will provide an affordable way for the public to increase their chances of being reunited with their bicycles should they be lost or stolen.”

“We are excited to offer a new, easy-to-access, easy-to-use online bike registry,” said Marcia Fifer, Business Licensing Coordinator, Community By-law Enforcement Services. “We encourage everyone that has a bike to write down their serial number when they’re getting it ready for the season and to register it with us.”

“The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to support this program and encourages the public to use the registry," said Inspector Chody Sutherland. "The WPS often locates bicycles before they are reported lost or stolen. This new online registry will allow police to return bikes to their rightful owner quickly. The WPS would also like to remind the public to continue to report the loss or theft of a bicycle using our online reporting system. Timely reporting as well as this new online registry will assist police in identifying crime trends and aid in theft investigations.”

To register your bike online, or for more information, please visit: winnipeg.ca/bikeregistry. All bike registrations made using the mail service method have been transferred to the new online bike registry database and are still valid. Registrations can continue to be made in person or by mail, if required.

Lost or stolen bikes can be reported to the WPS online, at City of Winnipeg – Citizen Online Police Reporting System.
