On-street parking rates to increase by $1.50 beginning April 1

Pay stations will take six to eight weeks to update

Winnipeg, MB - This spring, on-street parking rates will be increasing by $1.50. This change will take approximately six to eight weeks to fully implement beginning April 1, 2018 because each individual pay station needs to be reprogrammed manually.

Motorists will know if new rates are in effect by the rate card on the pay station. A temporary sticker will also be placed on the front of a pay station to indicate there are new prices in effect when that pay station is updated. In addition, the Winnipeg Parking Authority will post and update a map online daily (weekdays only) indicating which pay stations have been updated.

Until all pay stations are updated, the PayByPhone app will charge the old rate. When all pay stations are updated (expected within approximately six to eight weeks), the PayByPhone app will charge the new rate. This is a great time to try out the PayByPhone app as motorists will benefit from the cheaper rate during this transition period.

Anyone with unused scratch and park meter passes can bring them to the Winnipeg Parking Authority office at 495 Portage Ave. and exchange them for updated passes based on the new rate by paying the difference in value. Passes with the lower rate will be valid until June 1, 2018.

Also beginning April 1, the early payment discount for parking offences will be changed from 50% to 25% of the fine.
