Released: January 26, 2018 at 11:15 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Public Library will be donating all fines collected in person at any of its branches and online on Saturday, January 27, 2018, to The Winnipeg Foundation’s Literacy for Life Fund in recognition of National Family Literacy Day.

“The Literacy for Life Fund benefits thousands of families every year through grants to family literacy programs across the province, including projects here at Winnipeg Public Library,” said Ed Cuddy, Manager of Library Services. “The overdue fines collected on January 27 will help bring books, storytelling, and healthy play to our community and build literacy for life.”

In the last 15 years, Winnipeg Public Library has donated approximately $40,000 towards the Literacy for Life Fund in recognition of National Family Literacy Day.

The Literacy for Life Fund was established in 2003 by Literacy Partners of Manitoba, the Winnipeg Public Library and The Winnipeg Foundation. The fund has grown through generous gifts from the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba and donors from all walks of life.
