Public invited to attend information session on the Winnipeg Canoe Club Golf Course Reimagining plans

Released: November 17, 2017 at 1:01 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are being asked to attend an information session and provide comment on preliminary plans for the Canoe Club Golf Course reimagining.

Over 1,000 Winnipeggers responded to a survey this summer to tell the City how they would reimagine the Canoe Club Golf Course. Responses were mixed between those who wish to maintain a golf course and those who want to share or use the space for other recreation. At this time, the City plans to retain the majority of the golf course while seeking opportunities to enhance current facilities, share the space, and incorporate additional activities and would like further feedback on these options.

The City of Winnipeg owns the 48-acre Winnipeg Canoe Club Golf Course and leases out operations and maintenance of the course for five year terms. In April 2019, the current lease of the course to a private operator will expire. $1 million has been set aside in the 2019 capital budget forecast, which could be used to fund amenities on the property, subject to Council approval of the budget and project.
