Winnipeg, MB – Fire Prevention Week 2017 is being held across Canada from October 8 to 14. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is working with its partners to provide educational activities that highlight the importance of fire prevention in our communities. The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is Every Second Counts - Plan 2 Ways Out!

Fire Prevention Week Kick-off

The Fire Prevention Week kick-off will feature a pumper truck and crew, fire safety houses, and lots of great information for kids. The kick-off will be attended by students, teachers, school staff, and Mayor Brian Bowman.
When: Tuesday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Cecil Rhodes School, 1570 Elgin Avenue West

Canadian Tire Events

WFPS firefighters will team up with Canadian Tire to promote the importance of smoke alarms and other fire life safety equipment by making public appearances at Canadian Tire stores around the city. Firefighters will be available to chat with the public about how to test smoke alarms and where to install them in a residence.

Fire Drills for Schools

Schools across Winnipeg will take part in fire drills, promoting fire safety and providing tips on fire prevention to students.

Fire Paramedic Station Open House

All Winnipeg fire paramedic stations will invite the public in for an open house. Kids can enter a contest to become Fire Paramedic Chief for the Day.
When: Saturday, October 14 from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Where: all WFPS fire paramedic stations
