Winnipeg, MB – At an event this morning, Councillor Marty Morantz joined the Tuxedo Tennis Club and Tennis Manitoba to announce upgrades to the Tuxedo Tennis Club.

“The Tuxedo Tennis Club is a long-time staple in the Tuxedo community and has a long history of offering top-notch programming to Winnipeg residents,” said Marty Morantz, City Councillor for Charleswood - Tuxedo - Whyte Ridge. “I’m pleased the City of Winnipeg could play a part in supporting the facility and ensuring the Club continues to provide recreation opportunities to the community for many more years.”

Located at 370 Southport Boulevard, the Tuxedo Tennis Club is a not for profit club that promotes fitness, camaraderie, and the sport of tennis for everyone. Recent improvements at the club included converting the gravel parking lot into an asphalt parking lot and installing accessible parking stalls, a new sidewalk from the parking lot to the Tennis Club building, a new compost enclosure for lawn bowling, wood bollards, and new sod. Funding for this component of the project was provided by the City of Winnipeg in the amount of approximately $120,000 through the 2017 Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program.

In April 2017, a major court redevelopment project was completed that included expansion and installation of new LED energy efficient lighting on two courts. These improvements were made possible by the club’s financial and volunteer investment, along with a $50,000 Community Incentive grant from the City of Winnipeg Community Infrastructure Program and $20,000 of funding from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

“The recent completion of project milestones provides a more functional facility in the community. We have seen an increase in competitive levels of play, additional child and youth programs, and extended playing hours,” said Gladys Stewart, Co-President of the Tuxedo Tennis Club. “The club is very grateful to the City of Winnipeg, Councillor Morantz’s office and to Western Economic Diversification Canada for their assistance”
