Real people, real stories: Millennium Library hosts the Human Library®

Released: September 19, 2017 at 10:50 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Public Library, in partnership with Sarasvati Productions and FemFest, will host a Human Library from September 21 to 23 at the Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street.

Human Libraries promote dialogue and encourage understanding between people who might not normally have ever met. In a Human Library, people become the books and are borrowed for one-on-one conversations for up to 30 minutes in a safe and welcoming space. The Human Books come from a variety of backgrounds and ways of life, but have one common experience – they have faced discrimination, prejudice or stereotyping. Twenty-four (24) Human Books will be available to borrow over the course of three days at this free event.

The Human Library will be held on the second floor of Millennium Library on the following days and times:

  • Thursday, September 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, September 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Human Books can be reserved by calling 204-986-6779 until September 20. Reservations after September 20 can be made in-person only at the event on a first-come, first-served basis; the Human Library registration desk will open for bookings 30 minutes before event start times.
