Recycling, garbage and yard waste collection day schedules changing for some residents as of October 1

Released: September 8, 2017 at 10 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Starting October 1, 2017, the City of Winnipeg is adjusting recycling, garbage and yard waste collection days for some residents, to make the cart collection system more efficient. The changes are related to a new seven-year collection contract.

This change in collection contracts will require adjustments to the collection day schedule for 59% of customers. All cart collection customers will receive a notice by direct mail starting the week of September 18 confirming their collection day.

Changes will take effect starting Monday, October 2, 2017.

The City is confident that the new collection contract, which is shared between two different contractors, will be more efficient and provide the best possible collection service for the City and its residents. Collection service for City metal bins will not be changing at this time.

To find out whether their collection day and/or yard waste week has changed, customers can visit City of Winnipeg – Collection Day or download the free My Waste app.
