Released: May 17, 2017 at 12:06 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is accepting applications for the OurWinnipegCommunity Advisory Committee membership. OurWinnipeg is the City of Winnipeg's municipal development plan that sets the vision for the next 25 years and provides direction in key focus areas. Advisory committee members will help shape the foundation of Winnipeg's future development priorities as the City undertakes the review of the plan.

On October 26, 2016, City Council initiated the five-year review of OurWinnipeg. As part of the review process, the advisory committee will:

  1. Advise the Urban Planning Division on community-based issues, public engagement activities, city-wide priorities, and other OurWinnipeg related issues;
  2. Explore and refine guiding principles, gaps or opportunities in policies, programs, priorities, and resource allocation in the OurWinnipeg review, as identified by the Public Service, public engagement activities, or background studies;
  3. Build relationships with specific sectors, networks and community members to reach members of the general public who have typically been underrepresented in past planning processes to participate in a meaningful way.

The advisory committee will be composed of up to 14 community members with experience in areas such as the environment, housing, poverty reduction, and development, and will be active throughout the OurWinnipeg review process, expected to begin in June, 2017 and running until spring 2019. Committee membership selection will seek equitable representation that reflects the diversity of Winnipeg residents.

The application submission deadline is June 7, 2017.
