Winnipeg Public Library invites applications for 2017-2018 Writer-in-Residence

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeg Public Library is inviting applications for an established, professionally-published author with experience in editing, or teaching writing, to be the 2017-2018 Writer-in-Residence.

Winnipeg Public Library hosts many literary and learning programs to enhance the cultural vitality of the city, and one of the longest-running services is the Writer-in-Residence program. Since 1985, talented and award-winning authors have provided one-on-one mentorship and public workshops to hundreds of emerging writers of all genres.

During their term, the Writer-in-Residence works with dozens of emerging Manitoba writers by email and phone, as well as through in-person consultations and workshops. The Writer-in-Residence also hosts public workshops and programs in Winnipeg to share their special expertise in any genre from songwriting to memoirs to classical poetic forms. The residency also includes time to work on a personal writing project.

The Writer-in-Residence term runs October 1, 2017 until April 30, 2018. Deadline for applications is Monday, June 12, 2017.

The Writer-in-Residence position is funded by the City of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Public Library Board, the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library, the Manitoba Writers’ Guild, and Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage.
