Public invited to provide input on Valour Community Centre - Orioles Site Frontage Redevelopment

Released: March 15, 2017 at 11:40 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to attend an open house on the continuing renewal of the Valour Community Centre - Orioles Site.

The Valour Community Centre - Orioles Site is one of the oldest community club locations in Winnipeg, first opening its doors in the West End in 1948. The building hosts a variety of sport and fitness activities including the long-running Orioles Boxing Club. The facility also acts as an important hub for community programs supporting nearby students, families and seniors.

In recent years, the community club has undergone renovations to the playground, multi-purpose room, kitchen, common area and washrooms. In the fall of 2016, the gymnasium was revamped to further increase programming.

Under the Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program, the club is currently redeveloping a paved area on the south side of the property near Burnell Street and St. Matthews Avenue. With the intent of making the site more inviting, we are developing a master plan for the front entrance of the community centre and investigating in a number of new features and facilities. The community garden in that same location will be retained and possibly reoriented.

Construction is expected to be begin in the fall of 2017.

We are asking for community input on a site layout and amenity options.

Date: Tuesday, March 21, 2017
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Valour Community Centre - Orioles Site, Gymnasium, 448 Burnell Street
