Mayor Bowman to Lead Winnipeg Delegation to Toronto

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Mayor Brian Bowman is continuing to build on his campaign commitment to showcase Winnipeg on the national and international stage by leading a Winnipeg delegation to Toronto with Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW).

“Winnipeg’s innovation and technology sectors continue to grow rapidly and I’d like nothing more than to see that growth continue,” said Mayor Bowman. “We continue to see reports praising the momentum of Winnipeg’s innovation, technology and tourism sectors. Learning the experiences of businesses and organizations in Toronto will not only help our sectors continue to grow but also identify ways in which we can collaborate to increase investment in Winnipeg.”

The delegation will meet with leading businesses and organizations in the innovation and technology sectors to identify areas of collaboration that can further grow those sectors in Winnipeg. Also on the agenda are meetings with:

  • Canada Goose, which has tremendous experience and insight with the Winnipeg-Toronto relationship;
  • The Omega Foundation, a member of The Winnipeg Promise Steering Committee whose aim is to remove barriers and increase enrolment in the Canada Learning Bond as a means to assist children in low-income families build for their futures; and
  • IBM, to learn about its Smarter Cities initiative that aims to transform the way governments leverage technology to grow smarter.

The delegation to Toronto runs from November 23-28. Mayor Bowman is also scheduled to meet with John Tory - Mayor of Toronto, Johnson and Johnson, NACO (National Angel Capital Organization), Toronto Pearson West Cargo, MaRS (Toronto’s version of Innovation Alley) and the DMZ at Ryerson University (the top-ranked university-based incubator in North America). Mayor Bowman will also provide a keynote address to the internationally acclaimed University of Toronto - Faculty of Law on Appropriate Responses to the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
