Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg has begun installing high-resolution camera equipment at various locations throughout the city in order to address illegal dumping activities.
The Council-approved two-year pilot project will see high-resolution CCTV technology used to assist in identifying vehicles and/or persons that are illegally dumping in priority sites, which have been determined through consultation with community stakeholders, City of Winnipeg departments, and enforcement officers. Cameras will be periodically moved from location to location. Due to the nature of the program, the specific locations of the cameras are confidential.
The goal of this pilot project is to help develop and maintain safe, orderly, viable and sustainable communities and to promote and maintain the health, safety and well-being of Winnipeggers. More information on illegal dumping is available in the Neighbourhood Liveability By-law or by visiting City of Winnipeg - Property & Neighbourhood Standards.
