Salting operations continue on Winnipeg streets, truck plowing to commence this evening

Motorists are urged to stay back and stay safe from heavy equipment working

Winnipeg, MB - City of Winnipeg salting and sanding trucks are continuing to work today to improve traction on roadways throughout the city. Last night, crews began anti-icing activities on bridges and underpasses in anticipation of this morning's snowfall. The overnight salting operation included all regional streets, and the priority 2 network, which includes non-regional bus routes and collector streets.

In addition to the salting operations, starting at 7:00 p.m. today the City will also be truck plowing regional streets. This operation will continue onto bus routes and collector streets later this evening and into tomorrow morning.

Crews are also clearing sidewalks on regional streets, and sidewalks on bus routes and collector streets.

Stay back, stay safe

Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment or sanding trucks.

Parking ban

Only the regular Snow Route Parking Ban is in effect at this time, meaning parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets displaying �Snow Route- signs.

The City offers free email and Twitter notifications which advise subscribers when a parking ban goes into effect. To sign up for notifications, or for more information about all winter parking bans visit knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca or contact 311.

Salting, sanding and snow clearing operations are undertaken in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy.
