Winnipeg, MB - The International Parking Institute (IPI) recently recognized the Winnipeg Parking Authority with a Parking Matters Marketing and Communications Award for their Park Smart communication program at its conference on June 30, 2015.

The Park Smart communication program was created in 2012, as part of a growing understanding that enforcement alone does not always improve compliance. The Winnipeg Parking Authority developed a simple, low-cost program built around communication, education and safety.

In partnership with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the Winnipeg Police Service, the Winnipeg Parking Authority began attending events throughout the City to illustrate why illegal parking may create problems and concerns, including causing serious delays or preventing access for emergency personnel and vehicles such as fire engines and ambulances.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority has distributed over 20,000 brochures to the public since the program's inception in 2012.
