Summer hours and free activities at Living Prairie Museum

Winnipeg, MB - Take advantage of extended hours and join the Living Prairie Museum for free family activities all summer long.

The City of Winnipeg's Living Prairie Museum will be open seven days a week, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from July 1 to August 31.

Guided hikes
From Tuesday, July 7 until Tuesday, August 25, the museum will offer public guided hikes through the preserve every Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Learn about prairie wildflowers and their traditional uses, habitat management through controlled burns, bison grazing and aspen encroachment, prairie wildlife and more. Hikes are about 45 minutes to an hour in length. Please dress for the conditions. Call 204-832-0167 to reserve a space.

Summer theme days
Join us every Thursday for free family fun! From Thursday, July 9 until Thursday, August 20 the museum will offer one-hour educational programs every Thursday featuring a presentation and hands-on activity related to prairie habitat. Please call 204-832-0167 to register one week in advance.

Thursday session times:

  • 10:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This summer, visit any three participating Eco Explore sites, including the Living Prairie Museum, to earn your Eco Explorer title. Snap a selfie at three different Eco Explorer sites, post them on Instagram with #ecoexploremb, and receive your title as a Manitoba Eco Explorer. The explorer with the most sites is eligible to win a prize.
