Winnipeg, MB - Today the Public Service published an administrative report, prepared by the Office of Public Engagement, that provides a review of the public consultation process for the Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies. The report also recommends that the Office of Public Engagement report back with a Public Engagement Policy for Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies.

Upon review of the public consultation work done as part of the Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies, the Office of Public Engagement determined that the consultation completed was adequate and followed industry best practices, said Michelle Finley, Acting Public Engagement Officer for the City of Winnipeg. The Pedestrian and Cycling Strategies' public engagement process heard from over 3,000 Winnipeggers during its development, representing a variety of perspectives but there is always room to enhance the engagement experience for citizens. The recommendation that a policy be created will better guide public engagement activities for future Active Transportation infrastructure projects.

The report and review were requested by the Executive Policy Committee (EPC) in response to delegate presentations made at the May 13, 2015 EPC.
The report will be considered by the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works on June 23, 2015.
