Canadian Junior Men's curling team receives Mayor's Award for Sports Excellence

Winnipeg, MB - Today at City Hall, Mayor Brian Bowman presented the Canadian Junior Men’s curling team with the Mayor’s Award for Sports Excellence for their recent 6-3 gold medal win at the World Junior Men’s championship in Estonia.

“Winnipeg is renowned as a sports city not only because we are so passionate about sports, but because we are home to some of the best athletes in the nation, and it is my pleasure to present the Canadian Junior Men’s curling team with the Mayor’s Award for Sports Excellence for their amazing gold medal win in Estonia,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “This proves yet again that Winnipeg is home to some of the best curling talent not just in Canada, but internationally.”

The Canadian Junior Men’s team consists of: Braden Calvert, skip; Kyle Kurz, third; Lucas Van Den Bosch, second; Brendan Wilson, lead; Colton Lott, fifth; and coach Tom Clasper.

Past recipients of the Mayor’s Award for Sports Excellence include Olympic curling champions Team Jennifer Jones and Team Canada wheelchair curling champion Chris Sobkowicz.
