Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Transit assist with evacuation of hotel due to basement flooding

Released: March 11, 2015 at 10:55 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews were called to the Airport Hotel (1800 Ellice Avenue) at 5:21 a.m., in response to a report of smoke. Upon arrival, it was determined that there was no fire but the basement was flooded and that guests of the hotel should be evacuated to an alternate location.

With the assistance of Winnipeg Transit, 56 people were transported to an alternate hotel on Notre Dame Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Water and Waste crews are on-site and the water service to the building has been shut off. Crews have determined that the leak is on the private water service pipe.
