Update on snow clearing and sanding operations

Released: January 7, 2015 at 10:45 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Crews have been hard at work this week to scrape down areas where ruts have formed and to deal with problematic areas as a result of last weekend's snowfall, which was made worse by cold weather and high winds compacting the snow. Grader plows will again be on the road tonight to address remaining areas.

“Crews have been working every day since the first snowfall to ensure we are meeting the standards set by Council so that Winnipeggers can move about safely and easily on our roads, lanes and sidewalks,” said Jim Berezowsky, manager of streets maintenance. “Grader plows are currently out in full force each night to get the job done with minimal traffic disruption.”

Back lane clearing was completed yesterday and sidewalk clearing should be completed today as crews focus on finishing priority 3 (residential) sidewalks.

Sanding will continue as required throughout the city.

Stay back, stay safe
Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment or sanding trucks.
