Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) gave Kris Kringle a helping hand this year by participating in A & O: Support Services for Older Adults. Be a Santa to a Senior initiative. A & O identified older adults in our community who may not receive gifts during the holiday season, then coordinated with community volunteers, including the WFPS, to help purchase gifts.
This year, volunteers from the WFPS came together to donate 100 gifts to deserving seniors in our community.
“The Be a Santa to a Senior program is an amazing way for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Communications Branch to connect with the community that we serve,” said Gina Silva, Communications Operator for the WFPS. “We hope we made the holiday season even brighter for a few special Winnipeg seniors.”
Through the Be a Santa to a Senior program, seniors write a gift request on a tree ornament. Volunteers then receive the ornament with gift request, select a gift, wrap it, and return the gift and ornament to A & O. A & O then delivers the wrapped gift to the senior. Last year, A & O’s community partners, including the WFPS, contributed more than 1,400 gifts to the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
