Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Residential fire on Gallagher Avenue

Released: October 17, 2014 at 12:52 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - At 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014, firefighters from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a fire in a one-and-a-half story residential home in the twenty-one hundred block of Gallagher Avenue. Upon arrival crews were met with the sound of rupturing propane tanks and a large amount of smoke and fire.

The fire was confined to the rear area of the home and due to poor visibility, crews used a defensive strategy and positive pressure ventilation to help keep the fire from spreading to the interior of the building.

The lone occupant of the home had evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters and there were no reported injuries. Cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate is unavailable at this time.
