EPC Accepts Recommendations of Fire Paramedic Station Review

Released: October 21, 2013 at 2:52 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Executive Policy Committee today accepted all the recommendations contained within an independent review of the replacement and relocation of four new fire paramedic stations.

“This review is sobering,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “It highlights that oversight and due diligence were lacking within the City of Winnipeg and that Council was not kept properly informed about numerous aspects of the overall project. Executive Policy Committee is fully committed to seeing that the 14 recommendations contained in the report are implemented as soon as possible.”

In September 2012, Mayor Katz accepted the recommendation of the City Auditor to conduct an external review of the construction of new fire paramedic stations.

“The review concludes that there were times when the City’s interests were not protected adequately. We must not retreat from the results, but instead begin work immediately to implement the recommendations.”
