Mayor Announces Director for Office of Policy Development and Communications, New Chief of Staff

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Sam Katz announced today that Bonnie Staples Lyon is the City of Winnipeg's Director for the Office of Policy Development and Communications (OPDC), providing support to the Mayor and members of Executive Policy Committee. Brad Salyn, who has held a number of positions at the Mayor's Office since Mayor Katz assumed office in 2004, is moving to the position of Chief of Staff.

“Bonnie Staples Lyon has served this office tirelessly since 2010,” said Mayor Katz. “I know her strategic planning and communications experience will be invaluable to Executive Policy Committee and I look forward to working with her in her new capacity as Director for the Office of Policy Development and Communications.”

For the past three years, Staples Lyon has served as Chief of Staff to the Mayor. Before arriving at the Mayor’s Office, Staples Lyon had her own consulting company. Prior to that, she served as Vice-President for Corporate Communications and Government Relations at MTS, as well as working as Director of Communications for the provincial government in the 1990s and special project manager for the Economic Development Board of Cabinet.

Brad Salyn has served a number of roles in the Mayor’s Office, including Press Secretary, Director of Communications and most recently, Director of Policy.

“Brad Salyn is in an excellent position to step into the role of Chief of Staff, with extensive policy and communications experience,” said Mayor Katz. “I look forward to working with him in this new leadership role.”

The role of the OPDC is to provide policy development, research and communications on behalf of Executive Policy Committee.
