Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Sam Katz today congratulated Winnipeg father and son team, Tim Hague Sr. and Tim Hague Jr., for making it to the final round in the popular reality television show, The Amazing Race Canada, which concludes tonight on CTV.
"Winnipeggers can all be proud of the determination and spirit that got the two Tims to the Amazing Race finals," said Mayor Katz. "As competitors, they have shown us all the meaning of tenacity and good sportsmanship."
The Amazing Race Canada has offered the Hagues a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Canada and to bring awareness to the challenges posed by Parkinson’s disease. Tim Sr., a registered nurse and manager at St. Boniface Hospital, was diagnosed with the disease in 2011.
"This has been one of the best and most difficult things I've ever done in life," said Tim Sr., who had never traveled east of Winnipeg prior to the show’s filming. "Hopefully, my participation is a real encouragement not only to people with Parkinson's, but to anybody facing adversity. We appreciate the incredible support that Winnipeggers have shown us throughout this competition."
The Hagues were the only Winnipeg-based team to take part in the 21-day Canadian adventure which took participants coast-to-coast. Nearly three million viewers have been tuning in weekly to watch teams compete in a variety of challenges and face elimination. Three two-person teams remain in the televised competition.
"The Hagues have been tremendous ambassadors for our city and we wish them all the best," said Mayor Katz. "No matter what happens, I am so amazed and proud of what they have achieved together."
