Released: August 12, 2013 at 5:08 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Tonight Mayor Sam Katz presented the Key to the City to Sir Paul McCartney before the legendary musician took the stage for a sold-out performance at Investors Group Field.

“We are thrilled to present Sir Paul with the Key to the City,” said Mayor Katz. “Not only have his songs touched generations of music fans, his many years of working with charitable organizations has set a tremendous example of caring and humanity for us all.”

McCartney, a founding member of the Beatles, is considered to be one of the world’s most successful musicians of all time. In addition to his prolific career as a composer and recording artist, McCartney has become known for his philanthropy and activism, working with organizations to bring awareness to animal rights, vegetarianism, musical therapy and education, and participating in numerous benefit concerts.

In 1997, McCartney received his knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for his “services to music”.
