Pavement Rehabilitation construction work to begin next week on Portage Avenue eastbound from St. John Ambulance Way to Sherburn Street

Winnipeg, MB - Starting the week of June 24, 2013, the City will begin a four-month project to complete pavement, curb and sidewalk repairs on eastbound Portage Avenue between St. John Ambulance Way and Sherburn Street.

Pavement rehabilitation construction works on Portage Avenue will include:

  • Intersection improvements at St. John Ambulance Way;
  • Concrete joint and slab repairs;
  • Sidewalk repairs;
  • New asphalt overlay;
  • Traffic signals upgrades; and
  • Minor sidewalk improvements at intersections on westbound Portage Avenue.

Traffic restrictions throughout the four-month project include:

  • Traffic lane restrictions on eastbound and westbound Portage Avenue;
  • Traffic lane restrictions on St. John Ambulance Way;
  • Limited sidewalk access - pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained; and
  • No loading zones or street parking on the south side of Portage Avenue.

Two eastbound lanes on Portage Avenue will remain open at all times with three lanes open during the weekday morning rush hour where possible.

Winnipeg Transit routes will continue to operate on Portage Avenue throughout construction.
