Winnipeg, MB - Today, at a presentation at City Hall, Mayor Sam Katz presented Mayor’s BIZ Awards to recognize 16 individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to their local Business Improvement Zone.
The Mayor’s BIZ Awards are presented annually to acknowledge contributions in the areas of marketing, special events, promotions, area beautification and safety, among others. Mayor Katz recognized the award recipients for their dedication and hard work.
“These awards recognize those who work hard, year-round, to promote and support their Business Improvement Zone,” said Mayor Katz. “We are lucky to have so many dedicated people who are passionate about contributing to the success of their BIZ and the quality of life in Winnipeg.”

- Paul’s Greenhouse - St. Vital B.I.Z.
- Sustainable South Osborne Community Cooperative - Osborne South B.I.Z.
- Festival du Voyageur - Provencher Blvd B.I.Z.
- Peter & Esther Vandenberg - St. James Village B.I.Z.
- Le Marche St. Norbert Farmers’ Market - St. Norbert B.I.Z.
- Dan Trottier - Selkirk Avenue B.I.Z.
- Megan Strain - Transcona B.I.Z.
- Michelle Slota - West Broadway B.I.Z.
- Shane Storie - West End B.I.Z.
Marty Halprin was honoured posthumously for his work with the Osborne Village B.I.Z.
There are 16 unique Business Improvement Zones in Winnipeg, representing approximately 5,000 businesses. While each have their own mandate mission statement, all share the common goal of improving their zone for their business members. The Downtown B.I.Z., established in 1989, was the first of the city’s Business Improvement Zones; the St. Norbert B.I.Z. is the newest to be added to the list.
