Winnipeg, MB - Today, Joyce Bateman, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz announced support for the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre under the Federal Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

“Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects like the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre across the country,” said MP Bateman. “Our investments in projects such as this one will benefit families and communities immediately, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as creating safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities for years to come.”

The Federal Government’s investment of $150,500, together with the $151,199 contribution from the City of Winnipeg, will enhance the services provided by the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre. Under the project, renovations are being made to the kitchen and multi-purpose room to support the wide range of programs and services offered.

"The Fort Rouge Leisure Centre is an integral part of this neighbourhood, supporting recreational programing for all ages as well as being home to the Osborne library," said Mayor Katz. "The commitment we are making today in partnership with the federal government demonstrates the City is dedicated to doing what it can to support Winnipeg's infrastructure to ensure facilities such as this one are here to serve families today and into the future."
