Canadian Tire selects Downtown Winnipeg as site for new national computing centre

Winnipeg, MB - Canadian Tire Corporation announced today that it has chosen Winnipeg as the home of its new state-of-the-art digital content warehouse, application lab, testing lab and high performance data centre. When it opens in the Air Canada Centre in downtown Winnipeg in the fall of 2013, the ‘Canadian Tire Advanced Cloud Computing Centre’ will be one of the most advanced centres of its kind in North America. During the first year of operations, the Centre will bring 50 new jobs to Winnipeg.

“The opening of the Canadian Tire data centre will create terrific opportunities in our technology sector and will significantly advance the digital media industry in Winnipeg,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “This announcement by one of Canada’s top retailers also signals our success in making Winnipeg a city of choice for companies looking to make considerable investments.”

“The Canadian Tire Advanced Cloud Computing Centre will serve as the core digital hub for the Canadian Tire Family of Companies, including Canadian Tire Retail, Mark’s, FGL Sports, Partsource, Gas+ and our Financial Services division,” said Eugene Roman, Chief Technology Officer, Canadian Tire Corporation. “We’re entering the next phase of our digital journey and we’re excited that our journey puts the Winnipeg community front and centre.”

More than 10 community partners participated in attracting Canadian Tire Corporation to Winnipeg for this state-of-the-art facility including: YES! Winnipeg, the City of Winnipeg, Economic Development Winnipeg, the Province of Manitoba, ICTAM, New Media Manitoba, University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Red River College, Manitoba Hydro as well as several private sector organizations.
