Winnipeg, MB - The public is reminded that the Residential Parking Ban remains in effect until Saturday evening. Plowing operations will be conducted on residential streets (P3s) in snow zone E starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9 and continuing until 7:00 p.m.
Residents in this zone are urged to move their vehicles when their residential street is scheduled for plowing. This will help the snow clearing operation run smoothly and will prevent you from being ticketed and towed.
Missed Residential Streets
If some streets in a snow zone have been missed or only partially cleared, crews will return in the coming days to address outstanding snow clearing requirements. In the meantime, residents can park on their street since the Residential Parking Ban only applied during the 12-hour period previously scheduled. When plowing crews return, no additional parking restrictions will be imposed. However, residents are still encouraged to move their vehicles should they notice that their street is about to be plowed.
No other winter parking bans are in place at this time.
Residents are encouraged to visit knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca or call 311 to confirm their residential snow zone letter of the alphabet, and to determine when their snow zone is scheduled to be cleared. The public is also encouraged to sign up in advance for email or Twitter notifications through knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca to find out when designated snow zones are scheduled for plowing.
Despite the City’s Residential Parking Ban that is in effect for specific snow zones scheduled for clearing, Winnipeg Parking Authority reported a total of 1,245 tickets were issued between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. yesterday. Many vehicles were towed to a nearby street that was not scheduled to be plowed.
“Parked vehicles continue to impede the residential snow clearing operation that commenced,” said Ken Boyd, Manager of Streets Maintenance. “Parked vehicles significantly slow down the snow clearing operation, making it extremely difficult for crews either to achieve a high quality snow clearing job or complete the scheduled snow zones within the allotted time frame.”
The City is urging the public to respect the residential parking ban and find alternate parking when parking ban is in effect on their street.
Vehicles parked in violation of the residential parking ban will receive a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed or that has already been plowed. If you believe your vehicle may have been towed due to the residential parking ban, please contact 311 for assistance in locating it.
Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or salting/sanding equipment. Plowing operations are continuing in accordance with the City Council approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy.
