Sanding trucks working around-the-clock to improve traction

Winnipeg, MB - In response to snow and blowing snow today, City crews are working as quickly as possible to clear main routes, bus routes, and collector streets tonight and Tuesday. A truck plowing operation will be initiated at 11:00 p.m. tonight (Monday), and plowing will continue overnight and tomorrow (Tuesday) on the city's Priority 1 and Priority 2 streets. Front-end loaders will be used to assist the truck plowing operation, to clear snow from intersections.

Salting and sanding trucks are continuing to work around-the-clock to address conditions on the roadway and improve traction.

Plowing crews will also be addressing locations that are prone to drifting snow such as outlying areas.

No winter parking bans are currently in effect.

Residents are urged to adjust their driving behaviour by making allowances for winter driving conditions. Drivers are advised to factor in additional travel time to get to destinations, slow down to a safe travel speed for winter conditions, and allow appropriate stopping distances.

Pedestrians are reminded to use proper winter footwear and use caution when walking on sidewalks.
