Winnipeg, MB - As people enter Winnipeg’s French Quarter via the Provencher Bridge later this year, they will be greeted by a new restaurant located on the Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge.
The Winnipeg Public Service is recommending that Chez Sophie Bistro be awarded a five-year lease agreement for the 4,000 square foot building on the bridge, commencing April 1, 2013.
An administrative report being presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Downtown Development, Heritage and Riverbank Management states that the lease agreement would require the restaurant to have bilingual menus and signage, and bilingual staff during the summer months.
The Public Service issued an Expression of Interest earlier this year to find a new tenant for the building. Several interested parties toured the facility, resulting in three formal proposals.
The report will be considered by the Standing Policy Committee on Downtown Development at its meeting on Monday, March 4, 2013. The report can be found here.
