Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be closed this weekend

Released: January 11, 2013 at 12:05 p.m.

WINNIPEG, MB - Due to the possibility of heavy snow accumulation and windy conditions during the weekend, the public is advised that Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be completely closed to public access this weekend starting today, Friday, January 11, 2013 at 4:30 p.m.

“Blizzard like conditions have been forecast for the city this weekend and we anticipate this may cause heavy drifting, resulting in very poor driving conditions on the cemeteries’ roadways,” said Jane Saxby, Cemeteries Administrator. “We apologize for the inconvenience but public safety is our primary concern.”

Cemeteries will remain closed until roadways are cleared. Clients and visitors are advised to contact 311 for the latest information before travelling to the facilities.

For updates on access to City-run cemeteries this weekend visit winnipeg.ca/ppd/cemeteries or contact 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311 or by email at 311@winnipeg.ca.
