Millennium Library to host Human Library, January 24-26

Released: January 10, 2013 at 2:02 p.m.

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Public Library, in partnership with CBC Manitoba and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, will host a Human Library from January 24 - 26, at the Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street.

Human Libraries are innovative events that promote dialogue and encourage understanding between people who might not normally meet. In a Human Library, people become the books and are borrowed for conversation by the public for up to half an hour in a safe, fun and welcoming environment.

The Human Books come from all backgrounds and ways of life, but have one common experience-they have all experienced discrimination or stereotyping.

The Human Library runs on the second floor, Millennium Library:

  • Thursday, January 24: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday, January 25: 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 26: 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The list of Human Books and schedule is available online.

Borrowing a Human Book is easy! Human Books can be pre-reserved, or drop in to the event. Bring your enthusiasm for conversation and learning. Time slots can fill quickly, so book early.

Pre-reservations are available January 14 - 23 only. There is a limit of two pre-reservations per person.

On-site reservations are January 24 - 26 at the event. Drop in to the second floor event desk and check for Book availability.
