WINNIPEG, MB - Mayor Sam Katz, together with Mabel, Andrew and Jason Lam, celebrated the annual turning on of the Christmas tree lights at City Hall this evening, continuing the tradition of honouring the Winnipeg family that donates a tree for holiday decorating.

The Mayor also presented Chaplain Mark Young with an $1,800 cheque in support of the Salvation Army/Winnipeg Fire Department Retirees "Toy Mountain" campaign. The financial contribution is drawn from the Mayor's civic initiatives fund.

"The Toy Mountain campaign brings a smile to the faces of young Winnipeggers," said Mayor Katz. "I'm pleased to support this campaign and I'm sure Winnipeggers will once again show their generosity by donating unwrapped toys."

The Colorado spruce at City Hall is decorated with 9,000 multi-coloured LED lights.
