WINNIPEG, MB - The public is advised that City of Winnipeg snow clearing crews are plowing residential streets or portions of residential streets that were missed earlier this week. This work will continue in the coming days until all residential streets are plowed.
Crews are still plowing snow zones according to the current plowing schedule. Currently, snow zone A is being plowed. Tonight beginning at 7 p.m., zone C will be plowed. Loaders are working to clear front driveway approaches, which may take up to eight hours to complete following the plows.
Inspectors have been working around-the-clock since Monday to identify and record residential (P3) street locations that will require additional snow clearing and the Public Works Department is aware of missed clearing in some snow zones. Snow clearing crews will be addressing outstanding snow clearing issues as quickly as possible in the coming days. A parking ban will not be in place while these streets are re-plowed.
"Overall our residential plowing operation has been on track and on schedule with only a few streets that have been missed," said Ken Boyd, Manager of Streets Maintenance. "Since plowing operations on major streets began Saturday, more than 300 pieces of snow clearing equipment have been involved in this entire operation. By Thursday morning, over 3,700 lane kilometres of residential streets will have been cleared, that's the equivalent of travelling by vehicle from Winnipeg to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island."
As plowing is still underway in areas across the city, residents are asked not to call 311 today to report unplowed streets, in order to help reduce call wait times. Starting Thursday morning, after 7:00 a.m. when the current plowing operation is complete, residents will be able to make a 311 service request if a residential (P3) street or portion of a street was missed. Citizens are still encouraged to call 311 to find out their snow zone letter, or the plowing schedule.
The City of Winnipeg wishes to thank all Winnipeggers for their patience and cooperation as we implement the new residential street parking ban for the first time this winter.
