WINNIPEG, MB - Residents who live on a street designated as a P3 are reminded to visit knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca or call 311 to confirm their residential snow zone letter of the alphabet, and to determine when their snow zone is scheduled to be plowed. The public is also encouraged to sign up in advance for email or Twitter notifications through knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca to find out when designated snow zones are scheduled for plowing.
This is the first time that the new Residential Parking Ban has been implemented, as last year there was not enough snow to warrant a residential plowing operation. To allow citizens some time to absorb the changes, the City is not issuing actual tickets, only warnings, during the first plow operation that ends this Thursday, November 15.
The new system for plowing residential streets means citizens are now only inconvenienced for the 12-hour period that their zone is scheduled for plowing, rather than several nights as with the previous system. Winnipeg is one of only a few cities in North America that have implemented such a snow zone system, which minimizes the inconvenience to the public while allowing the snow-fighters the ability to clear the streets in an effective and efficient manner.
Under the regular provisions of the by-law, vehicles parked in violation of the residential parking ban could be subject to a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed or that has already been plowed. If you believe your vehicle may have been towed due to the residential parking ban, please contact 311 for assistance in locating it.
