Salting and sanding operations will continue around-the-clock to improve traction

WINNIPEG, MB - The public is advised that a truck plowing operation is currently underway on the City's Priority 1 streets, which includes all major routes. Front-end loaders will be used to assist the truck plowing operation to clear intersections. Salting and sanding trucks are continuing to work around-the-clock to address icy conditions on the roadway, and improve traction. About 130 pieces of equipment will be used for this clean-up operation. Public Works is continuing to monitor weather forecasts and conditions for additional plowing requirements. An update will be provided on Sunday.

All public snow disposal sites are open for public use, go to winnipeg.ca/publicworks/SnowRemoval/SnowDisposalSites.asp for locations.

Currently no winter parking bans are in effect, however that may change in the coming days depending on snow accumulations and snow clearing requirements. The public can sign up at www.knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca for email or Twitter notifications for updated information on all City of Winnipeg winter parking bans and to be notified about when designated snow zones are scheduled to be plowed.

Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or salting/sanding equipment.

Winnipeg Transit is currently running on schedule with very few minor delays.

Plowing operations commenced in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at winnipeg.ca/publicworks/snow/snow-clearing-policy.stm
