City of Winnipeg Animal Services dog sale a success!

Released: October 22, 2012 at 10:43 p.m.

WINNIPEG, MB - As a result of overcrowding at its facility, the City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency organized a dog sale last week where 20 dogs were adopted into families.

As of today, 11 dogs were still awaiting adoption. Twenty-one unlicensed stray dogs were also waiting for their owners to claim them at Animal Services, 1057 Logan Ave.

Animal Services reminds citizens to:

  • License your dog. Licensed dogs get a free ride home once a year and are quickly returned to their owners typically at no charge. Impound fees, boarding fees, and a fine apply non-licensed dogs impounded at Animal Services. The fine for not licensing your dog is $250, plus court costs. Only about 10 per cent of the dogs entering Animal Services are licensed.
  • Please help to control the pet population by having your pet spayed/neutered. Keep your pet current on vaccinations. Contact your veterinarian or the Humane Society for subsidized programs.
  • If you lose your dog contact 311 and visit Animal Services. The Agency is open seven days a week, except holidays.

For photos and videos of the Agency's adoptable pets or to license your dog visit the City of Winnipeg Animal Services website or like the Agency on Facebook.

Animal Services thanks the public and the media for their overwhelming support of the dog sale.
