Southbound traffic on the Disraeli Overpass to flow for the first time Monday, September 3

Released: August 31, 2012 at 12:48 p.m.

WINNIPEG, MB - August 31, 2012 - Beginning Monday, September 3, all southbound lanes will be open for the first time on the new Disraeli Overpass starting at 6:00 a.m.

Northbound lanes of the new Disraeli Overpass opened in June. Southbound lanes of the new Disraeli Bridge opened last month and, later this fall, the northbound lanes of the bridge and the roadway connecting the overpass to the bridge will open. Construction will continue through the early fall with all lanes of the Disraeli Overpass and Disraeli Bridge slated to open in October 2012.

The project is running on time and on its budget of $195 million. The Disraeli Bridges Project is a public-private partnership known as a P3.

The new Disraeli Bridges will replace the 50-year-old structures that span the Red River and the Canadian Pacific Railway main line, and will rejuvenate a critical piece of Winnipeg's transportation infrastructure with a new design life of 75 years.
