Water main construction to begin this week on Broadway and Donald Street

Starting Monday, June 25, 2012, the City will begin a two-month project to replace the aging water mains on Broadway and Donald Street.

WINNIPEG - Starting Monday, June 25, 2012, the City will begin a two-month project to replace the aging water mains on Broadway and Donald Street.

The work will take place in the following blocks:

  • Broadway - between Kennedy Street and Donald Street
  • Donald Street - between Broadway and mid-block north of York Avenue

The work will cost about $1,150,000 and is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Traffic Restrictions

Traffic restrictions on Broadway throughout the two-month project include:

  • Two westbound lanes will be open to traffic only, Monday to Friday during the morning rush hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • From time to time, eastbound traffic will be reduced to two lanes only Monday to Friday during the afternoon rush hours of 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • There will be no loading zones or street parking on the westbound lanes.

Traffic restrictions on Donald Street throughout the two-month project include:

  • Three southbound lanes will be open only during the afternoon rush hours of 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - two lanes will be open at all other times.
  • There will be no loading zones or street parking.

Winnipeg Transit's 1 DOWNTOWN SPIRIRT, 29 SHERBROOK, 34 McPHILLIPS SUPER EXPRESS and 43 MUNROE routes will continue to operate on Broadway during construction.

All bus stops along Broadway remain in service. As required, temporary bus stops will be set-up away from construction zones for safety.
