WINNIPEG - October 11, 2010 - This weekend City of Winnipeg thawing crews will be working as conditions permit to open curb inlets, catch basins, and culverts across the city. Crews are also engaged in removing snow, ice accumulations and debris from city ditches to assist the water run-off.
As temperatures continue to rise over the weekend, and in the coming weeks, crews will be working as quickly as possible to drain snow-melt run-off. Property owners can contact 311 with requests for service related to water accumulation caused by frozen catch basins and culverts.
For situations where damage to private dwellings due to run-off water is imminent, citizens are asked to please identify that risk to 311 customer service representatives. This information will help expedite the dispatch of crews to these locations.
The City of Winnipeg reminds property owners to remain vigilant and to protect their property in the coming days, as temperatures rise and the spring melt continues.
