WINNIPEG - December 16, 2008 – In recognition of Councillor Brenda Leipsic’s commitment to provide children, families and their pets with safe and beautiful places to play, Winnipeg City Council approved a motion moved by Mayor Sam Katz to name the off-leash dog park at the corner of Hurst Way and Parker Avenue “Brenda Leipsic Park”.
“Brenda’s passion for her community and her compassionate heart made the Lindenwoods off-leash dog park a reality,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “By making the park a namesake, we honour her very hard work, her love of safe beautiful spaces for families and their pets and have a wonderful green space to remember everything wonderful about Brenda in a park she loved dearly.”
“Manitoba Hydro was pleased to work with Brenda Leipsic and the City of Winnipeg to utilize this space for an off-leash dog park. We are saddened by her passing and naming this area in honour of Brenda is appropriate recognition for all her hard work in establishing this park,” said Bob Brennan, President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro.
Please join the Leipsic family in a celebration of Brenda’s life at the Winnipeg Convention Centre at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21st.
