WINNIPEG - June 15, 2007- The Insect Control Branch continues to monitor the adult mosquito population on a daily basis and will begin fogging when trap counts are in the range of 100 in one or more quadrants of the City. Based on today’s city wide average of 25, the numbers of adult mosquitoes are not sufficient to require fogging as early as Saturday. A public notice will be issued providing a further 24 hour notice prior to the first night that fogging will be carried out.

Currently, the AFA remains at High and trap counts have been over 25 for three consecutive nights. However, although current conditions (such as soil moisture levels, warm temperatures, and evidence of larvae development) are conducive for the emergence of adult mosquitoes, trap count numbers remain in the moderate range at this time. We know from past history that mosquitoes become intolerable when they are in the range of 100. We will continue to monitor on a daily basis. Should the situation change a further 24 hour public notice will be issued by Insect Control prior to the first night that fogging will be carried out. Daily updates with respect to conditions are available on the Insect Control website at Winnipeg.ca/bugline.
