Adult nuisance mosquito fogging program continues

Tonight, the City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch will continue its Adult Nuisance Fogging Program for the entire City beginning at 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. Until further notice, fogging will occur on a daily basis between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. For information on where City crews will be fogging, citizens are encouraged to visit the Website at Winnipeg.ca/bugline or call the Bugline at 311.

WINNIPEG June 26, 2006 - Tonight, the City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch will continue its Adult Nuisance Fogging Program for the entire City beginning at 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. Until further notice, fogging will occur on a daily basis between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Fogging will not occur when temperatures are below 13 ° Celsius, if there is significant precipitation, and/or wind speeds are not conducive for fogging.

Tonight, Monday, June 26th, 2006, crews will continue fogging in the following areas:

Chalmers, Munroe, Rossmere, Kildonan Drive, Springfield, River East, Kildonan Meadows, Radisson, Kildare/ Ridonda, Canterbury Park, Kern Park, Victoria West, Melrose, Elmhurst, Varsity View, Marlton, Eric Coy and Ridgewood South

The boundaries for these areas are as follows:

North Kildonan/East Kildonan

  • North Boundary: Red River and Glenway Ave; East on Glenway Ave to Raleigh St
  • East Boundary: South on Raleigh St to Bowman Ave
  • South Boundary: West on Bowman Ave to Red River
  • West Boundary: North on Red River to Glenway Ave

Transcona

  • North Boundary: Plessis Rd and Gunn Rd; East on Gunn Rd to Perimeter Hwy
  • East Boundary: South on Perimeter Hwy to Dugald Rd; West on Dugald Rd to Murdock Rd; South on Murdock Rd to St. Boniface Rd
  • South Boundary: West on St. Boniface Rd to Plessis Rd
  • West Boundary: North on Plessis Rd to Gunn Rd

Charleswood

  • North Boundary: Harstone Rd and Assiniboine River; East on Assiniboine River to the West boundary of Assiniboine Park Zoo
  • East Boundary: South along West boundary of the Assiniboine Park Zoo to Chalfont Rd; South on Chalfont Rd extending to Wilkes Ave
  • South Boundary: West on Wilkes Ave to Harstone Rd
  • West Boundary: North on Harstone Rd to Assiniboine River

All buffer zones will be respected. Crews will ensure that the insecticide sprayer is turned off 100 meters on each side of a registered property on the front street, side street, and rear lane. (Please note that although the sprayer has been turned off the sound of the sprayer’s engine will continue to be heard.) Residents who wish to have their primary residence excluded from the fogging program can register in writing to the Insect Control Branch at 3 Grey Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1V2, online at Winnipeg.ca/bugline or by fax at 311. Visit our Web site for more information on how to register for buffer zones. Please allow up to 72 hours for processing.

For information on where City crews will be fogging, citizens are encouraged to visit the Website at Winnipeg.ca/bugline or call the Bugline at 311. A Public Service Announcement will be issued daily, providing a minimum of eight (8) hours advanced notification, to advise citizens as to where fogging operations will specifically be occurring on that given night, weather permitting.

The insecticide Malathion for ultra low volume (ULV) applications will be used. This insecticide has been approved for use in Canada by Health Canada’s - Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). Malathion will be used in accordance with federally-approved label directions by licensed pesticide applicators.

The City’s extensive larviciding and barrier treatment programs will continue throughout the City in conjunction with the fogging program.
